St. Peter's Church in Cloverdale adjoins its own vineyard, which produces some of Sonoma County's most prized grapes. As if that wasn't enough, the church has another unique wine-related asset: Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Chapel in Asti, a tiny town just five miles south of Cloverdale, CA
Families from the long renowned Italian Swiss Family Colony Winery in Asti began worshipping in a school in about 1893. By 1907 they converted a greenhouse into the "wine barrel" church. They worshipped there until 1960 when they dedicated the current building with the same distinctive architecture. In fact, the redwood in its arched ceiling came from 30 old wine barrels.
After being closed during the Covid Pandemic, the chapel reopened in April, 2022, and Mass is once again being held at 8 a.m. every Sunday there.
But that's not the chapel's sole purpose. It's open for wedding ceremonies, too.
Surrounded by vineyards and wineries you won't find a more picturesque setting for nuptials. Plus, it's close to any number of wineries that would make for a memorable destination wedding.
