Fr. David's April 27 Letter to Our Parish Announces Plans for New Side Altars
Dear Parish Family, Peace and blessings to each of you. As your pastor, I continue to give thanks for the vibrant faith, love, and devotion that I witness daily in our community. With this same spirit of care for our Church and her sacred spaces, I would like to share with you a project that, God willing, will enhance the beauty, functionality, and devotional life Of Saint Peter's for generations to come.
Over the past months, many parishioners have expressed a heartfelt desire to enhance the side areas ofour sanctuary by dedicating two beautiful altars: one honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Other honoring Saint Peter, our parish patron. These altars are not intended to replace or alter the main altar, but rather to complement it, honoring the devotions deeply rooted in the hearts of our community, especially as we continue growing as one family, embracing both our Hispanic and Anglo heritages.
This project comes from the heart of our community, and it seeks to respect and uphold the sacred traditions of our Catholic faith. Our Lady Of Guadalupe and Saint Peter hold profound meaning for so many of us, reminding us of our mission to follow Christ faithfully and serve one another in love. The project involves remodeling the two side sections ofthe church to create these two altars. They would be crafted from redwood, carefully chosen to match the tone and design ofour historic main altar, maintaining the harmony, beauty, and sacred dignity of our worship space.
In order to make room for these altars, we would respectfully relocate the two existing statues. They will be preserved and honored in a manner that maintains their significance to our parish family.
I am aware that any change in our sacred space may raise questions or strong emotions. Please know that this project has been proposed after much prayer, reflection, and consultation. It is not about taking anything away from what we love, it is about building upon the strong foundation of our traditions, enhancing our devotional life, and responding to the spiritual needs of today's community. In a spirit of transparency and unity, I would like to outline the next steps:
Announcing the Project: This weekend, I will announce the project at all Masses. After Mass, I will remain available to listen to your questions, ideas, or concerns.
Open Invitation to Dialogue: If you would like to discuss the project further, or offer suggestions, I warmly invite you to make an appointment with me before May 5. I would be honored to meet with you personally.
Community Involvement: In the coming weeks, we will offer opportunities for parishioners to contribute prayers, intentions, or names to be spiritually included beneath the new altars, so that this effort truly rises from the faith of our people.
Fundraising Effort: We will provide donation envelopes and special collections for those who would like to support the project. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help bring this vision to life. Above all, your prayers and your support are the greatest gift,
Clear Communication: We will share regular updates, including sketches and progress reports, through the bulletin and parish website to keep everyone informed and engaged.
This is a project born from the love and devotion of our parish family. I pray that it will be a visible sign of our unity in Christ, and of our shared commitment to build not only a church of beautiful stone and wood, but above all a living Church of faith, hope, and love.
Thank you for your continued support, prayers, and love for our parish. May Saint Peter and Our Lady of Guadalupe continue to guide, bless, and protect us all.
